The founding directors of the Lawton Group are Peter & Val Lawton. They left Mackay, North Queensland in 1969 to pursue university studies in Sydney and to work overseas. After achieving professional status at the top corporate level they launched their separate business ventures and excelled in both. Peter, an engineer conducted his building and construction company in Sydney and was involved with major building projects throughout New South Wales and Victoria.
Val conducted her successful consultancy practice of accountants & tax consultants. In 1985 they brought their immense wealth of practical expertise and overseas business accruement to Mackay and expanded their separate businesses into Queensland. Alpetros Design (Engineers & Draftsmen) and Val Lawton & Associates (Tax Accountants & Business Consultants), now renamed to Lawton Accountants. This was the birth of the Lawton Group and since that date the family group of companies has grown to what it is today – Lawton Group International.
This successful family group has clients from Cairns in the far north of Queensland to the southern cities of Brisbane, Sydney and Melbourne. The group operates its head office from professional suites in its own commercial building, Lawton Group Building, 85-87 Gordon Street, Mackay. A number of other properties are owned by the group including commercial premises at Innovation Parkway, Birtinya on the Sunshine Coast and at ‘Etro on Gateway’, Lytton Road, Brisbane which houses two of the branch offices of Alpetros Design.
Over the years the businesses have been acknowledged for excellence. Val Lawton has been the proud recipient of many business awards (including one at State level) in recognition for her contribution to business and commerce. Alpetros Design has worked on many building projects including Melbourne’s Federation Square & Brisbane’s Cruise Ship Terminal at Hamilton.
Lawton Group International is a family business in the true sense of the word. Both Peter and Val Lawton employ all 4 of their adult children as well as their son-in-law. Rosanne Lawton-Kirby is a qualified Accountant for the Group and an Interior & Commercial Design Artist, Ryan Lawton and Aaron Kirby are Engineering Draftsmen, John Lawton is an Engineer & IT Manager while David Lawton is a highly qualified and experienced Tax Accountant, Financial Planner & Finance Broker.
